FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS PILATES?
"Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit" - Joseph Pilates. The Pilates Method is an approach in mind & body integration that was created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. The principles focus on balance, concentration, control, centered awareness and the breath. The movements are performed either as a mat class or on specialized equipment that uses springs for resistance. Pilates develops and enhances stamina, posture, alignment, abdominal and low back strength to support your everyday activities.
DO I HAVE TO BE IN SHAPE TO DO PILATES?
Not at all! Anyone can take Pilates. We love introducing the concepts of the Pilates Method to clients at the beginning of their journey and will cater each session to meet you where you are.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAT CLASS AND EQUIPMENT SESSIONS?
In mat class, we focus on muscular strength, flexibility, and alignment using your body's resistance in a group setting. In private equipment sessions, we customize each session to work one on one with you, using weighted springs to add or remove resistance and to increase or decrease the challenge. Both are fantastic and work well together. Doing both is the most traditional way of practicing Pilates.
